Stewart + Jaques Architects LLP is the evolution of Robert Stewart Architects, with Rob now joined by Ed Jaques in partnership. While the practice has a fresh identity, the partnership is built on a longstanding friendship and previous collaborations, bringing together complementary experience and a shared approach to architecture.
We specialise in residential new builds and extensions, arts sector projects, listed buildings and carefully considered commercial developments in sensitive locations. Our architecture is contemporary in its expression while always respecting the character, history and vernacular of its setting. As a two-partner practice, we offer a personal, collaborative service, remaining approachable, attentive and agile throughout every stage of the design process.
Rob Stewart
Rob Stewart has over 20 years of professional experience in architecture, with a particular focus on domestic projects ranging from the sensitive conservation and adaptation of historic buildings to contemporary new-build homes. Throughout his career, he has developed a deep understanding of residential design, creating thoughtful, practical and enduring homes that respond to both their setting and the needs of their owners.
Having designed and built his own home in Suffolk, Rob brings first-hand experience of the construction process, from early design decisions through to budgeting, procurement and delivery on site. This personal insight gives him a practical understanding of how buildings are made and enables him to guide clients confidently through every stage of their project.
Passionate about collaborative design, Rob enjoys working closely with clients to understand their aspirations and help them realise their ideal homes. His approachable manner, attention to detail and commitment to finding creative, tailored solutions ensure that each project reflects the people who live in it while making the most of its unique opportunities and constraints.
Ed Jaques
Ed Jaques has 15 years of experience in architecture, including work with Cambridge University, the National Trust and a wide range of listed buildings, developing a deep understanding of heritage, context-sensitive design and the careful adaptation of existing places.
Passionate about the wider role of architecture, Ed has worked with Architecture Sans Frontières UK on sustainable design initiatives, including projects at the Eden Project, and served as Secretary of the Cambridge Association of Architects, promoting architecture through public events, workshops and professional forums. These experiences reflect his belief in the power of architecture to create places that are thoughtful, enduring and socially responsible.
Ed brings an approachable, collaborative style and a practical, problem-solving mindset to every project. Outside the practice, he enjoys spending time with his young family and exploring the built environment that continues to inspire his work.
